WHAT IS UREA?

Urea is a molecule naturally present in healthy skin. It forms part of the skin’s Natural Moisturising Factor (NMF), a group of substances responsible for maintaining hydration, supporting barrier function and preserving skin comfort.  

When skin becomes dry, sensitive or compromised, levels of these natural moisturising factors can decrease. This often leads to discomfort, tightness and increased sensitivity.

HOW DOES UREA WORK?

When applied topically, urea acts primarily as a humectant, helping the skin attract and retain water.

It also supports the skin barrier and improves the skin’s ability to maintain hydration over time. At appropriate concentrations, urea can help soften rough, dry or uneven areas of skin while remaining well tolerated by sensitive skin types.
